All You Need to Know About Dental Implants. Part 2 – Three Easy Steps to a Dental Implant
We hope that having read our previous article on the benefits of dental implants made you think seriously about choosing this type of durable and stable tooth replacement option in Budapest. To show more detailed what to expect concerning the stages of the placement of these artificial teeth and the procedure itself, let us provide you with the following three easy steps on the way to receiving your brand new dental implants in Hungary.
The very first thing for you to do is to have a thorough consultation with your dentist, who will present you with a comprehensive and precise treatment plan along with a preliminary price estimation. This will not only include the price of the dental implants, but that of the whole treatment which is planned personally for your needs at our dental clinic in Hungary. A panoramic X-ray serves as a detailed map of your dentition, therefore it is an essential tool of establishing your diagnosis, while a CT scan is only necessary in certain cases, when a 3D view is also needed before placing the dental implants. If there is inadequate bone mass to support the dental implant, oral surgery may also be required. Either sinus lift to make room for the tooth replacement in the upper jaw bone or the addition of some bone grafting material to fully support the dental implants.
The procedure itself, that is the placement of a dental implant – a small titanium screw – into the jawbone is carried out by an oral surgeon, who makes a small incision in your gum to access the jawbone, drills a small hole and places the screw securely under the gum line.
The bone will be given time to heal and integrate completely with the implant. This process is called osseointegration, for which 3-4 months are needed to cure or even 6 months if bone grafting is necessary. In the meantime, a temporary tooth replacement – temporary porcelain crown or zirconia crown – may be placed over the dental implant to cover it up and provide a natural feeling while you are waiting for your brand-new smile.
3. Final restoration
When the jawbone has completely integrated with the dental implant, an abutment will be attached to the post to hold the permanent crown – this is only a minor incision in the gum. Impressions will then be taken and a custom-made, permanent crown will be fitted to the abutment to eventually serve as the tooth replacement.
This permanent zirconium or porcelain crown will be matched to your healthy teeth in color and in form to provide you with the most natural looking result. Once your crown is in place, you can treat your new tooth replacement just like your natural teeth: it will look, feel and function like your very own ones.
It is only up to you now to enjoy the benefits of your fresh, new look! Grab the chance to eat the food you love with ease, to have a stable bite again, a preserved jaw bone and last but not least an improved smile.
